As a photographer, I have a strong preference for analogue photography and pinhole photography in particular. Capturing images on film is an adventure every time and forces you to be thoughtful while shooting. Slow down! But especially the authentic, natural and smooth appearance of images on film, intensifying the ambience, is the deciding factor for me. The gorgeous irregularity of fine or coarse grain from which the image is drawn is beautiful. And Pinhole photography on film, with its natural softness and beautiful refraction of bright light sources in the image, adds painterly effects. Unmatched by digital photography, which remains to have something artificial. But digital photography also has its advantages and I use it regularly too. With stunning results.
My artistic goal is to create photographs of the ambience and beauty of the world and persons I see and feel around me. Typically I cannot achieve this through only capturing the image with a photographic medium, either digital or analogue. I use various digital techniques (and sometimes analogue as well) to intensify and increase the ambience and beauty of my subjects and scenes to express my vision.
